The problem is that this is a bit of an oxymoron.
Verbatim what the title is without any further interpretation. or in other words the "best defensive item". I think you've partly stumbled on the reasoning for this without actually realizing when you said I'm focusing on "best defensive" out of a list of items. ED?!ītw I also think psy fly is too op, but this is Ed's job. Just waiting for the final boss to die because you got some follower seems broken. The more I think about it, the more I think Gnawed Leaf needs to be hardcore nerfed. Unless I had some follower with which would then allow me to just afk the final boss until I won. If I had to play as the Lost with Holy Mantle and I was given the choice between Gwaned Leef and Psy Fly, I would always take the latter. Psy Fly is even better than Holy Mantle for any character other than the Lost. Holy Mantle is a really close contender too. I'm looking for an item which will add the most defense to my run on on average. I'm not looking for an item which makes me invincible (Gnawed leaf). Meanwhile I focus more on the term "best item", with "defensive" as a modifier. Probably because you focus on the terms "best defensive". You seem to be really firm on your interpretation of "best defensive item". If the host of an Eternal Fly is destroyed while it is frozen due to the use of items such as Mom's Bra, the fly will simply sit in the same spot without doing anything, being pushed by any tears shot at it.This only holds true if we are to go by your interpretation of the question rather than what it means by definition however.The player should destroy their Corn Poop to make the fly vulnerable, so the Familiar can kill it and move on. If the character has an enemy-seeking Familiar such as Dead Bird or stage 3 or 4 Cube of Meat, they will often preoccupy themselves by attempting to kill initially-invincible Eternal Flies, leaving Isaac to fight other enemies unaided. This method will only work in The Basement.
